History
Ancienne Prison CHARROUX is a small village in the middle of France located in a region which name is “le Bourbonnais”.It’s an agricultural area where corn,wheat and colza are raised.Cows ,sheeps,pigs and poultry are also bred in this area.Located 413 meters up,near vulcanos of “Auvergne”,CHARROUX looks down up valleys and plains around..This site gives it a magnificent view on the plain in the north and on “Auvergne” monts in the south.

Le Beffroi CHARROUX is a wealthy village concerning its history.During the middle age, it was a real fortified town, rich and commercial.From that time,still exist the names of the streets which remind their past activities “rue de la ferraillerie”, “de la poulaillerie”, “des tanneurs”.From the past fortified town,CHARROUX mainly kept the structure where you can guess the lay out of two lines of defense works.Still now you can see two of the four doors which gave access to the middle of the city.

To day ,CHARROUX is mainly know for tourism.It’s a village graded among the nicest villages of France.It preserves a church dating back to the XX th century. A lot of craftmen participate in the life of the village through a mustard manifacture,a soap manifacture,and craftmen for glass,wood and iron.More,this small village of 320 inhabitants has an exceptional museum which recalls the story of the city.

Very well located in the middle of France,it’s a perfect stage for anybody crossing our land who wants to make a stop. The village is adapted to this new economy:it has many B and B,resting places,restaurants and internet site.

Moreover CHARROUX is also the region of “Bourbonnais”: an exceptional richness of landscapes and historic heritage.You will discover about hundred castles,varied sport activities,but first of all the nature with rivers,forests,valleys……..
